Get your fighting fingers ready, Marvel gamers. "Marvel vs. Capcom 3" is official and coming soon!

Yes, you read that correctly. This is no belated April Fools` Day prank. This is no cruel, cruel joke. This is reality.

Headed to Xbox 360 and PS3 in Spring 2011 as a full-fledged retail release, "Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds" tornado whirlwind kicks the blockbuster series--dormant for 10 years aside from the 2009 digital re-release of "Marvel vs. Capcom 2"--into the 21st Century with massively updated graphics, new characters, new levels, a new story...almost new everything! Don`t worry though, many old favorites return with "MvC3." But before we tell you more, hold onto your seat and watch the teaser trailer for "Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds."

Whoa, right? Take a breather. Now watch it again.

Okay, you`re back? Great!

Revealed last week in Hawaii at Capcom`s annual, super-exclusive and semi-secret Captivate event, "Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds" pits roughly 30 characters from across the Marvel and Capcom universes in the most epic fighting game of all time. Building upon the foundation laid by the previous Marvel/Capcom games, "MvC3" features a fighting system that takes elements from those previous titles as well as Capcom`s recent brawler "Tatsunoko vs. Capcom." Additionally, the series makes the jump into 3D with graphics similar in style to those seen in "Street Fighter IV," though with a more striking comic book feel.

"At this point, there are roughly 30 characters in the game, but that number will increase," says Wes Phillips, Associate PR Manager for Capcom."You can rest assured that Niitsuma-san and his team will be working hard to include as many characters as possible before the game hits next year."

"Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds" promo art The diverse roster of characters and locations has not been fully revealed yet, but the initial list of playable fighters includes Wolverine, Hulk and Iron Man from the Marvel side, plus Ryu, Morrigan and Chris Redfield from team Capcom. Producer Ryota Niitsuma and Capcom are working feverishly to get as many characters into the game and plan to have roughly 30 in the game when it smashes onto consoles next year. With 10 years between titles, new characters have come to the fore for both Marvel and Capcom, so expect the roster to include brawlers both classic and brand new to the series.

The decade-long gap between "MvC2" and "MvC3" has also given fans plenty of time to come up with dream matches, wish lists for the new title and much more. How does Ryota Niitsuma, the producer and lead creative mind behind the game, feel about the pressure to live up to such high expectations?

"If I was scared of what the fans were thinking or had any trepadition at all about doing this, it wouldn`t have gotten made," says Niitsuma. "As a creator, I have confidence in what I create and I believe that what I make is something that the fans will enjoy. As long as I keep that in mind, I`m pretty sure this is something that the fans will enjoy."

With all that we`ve seen and all that we know is on its way, we`re positive the fans will be very happy with "MvC3." Enjoy the first gallery of character images below and stay glued to Marvel.com this week as we have additional "Marvel vs. Capcom 3" videos from Hawaii, an in-depth feature on the game and plenty more on the way.
